BLOOMINGTON – The American Red Cross Evening of Stars set fundraising and attendance records this year.
The event was held April 24, with former Super Bowl champion quarterback Aaron Rodgers attending as an invited guest. In total, around 1,100 people came out to this year’s Evening of Stars – a record for the event that has occurred since 1994. Red Cross Regional Executive Officer Lyn Hruska said the event also set a record for the amount of money raised.
“We raised an incredible $342,000 net,” Hruska explained. “That’s a combination of our sponsorship dollars, individuals who attended the event, and the fundraising that occurs at the event.”
Hruska said the funds raised at the Evening of Stars will be used to provide aid to the community if a natural disaster ever hits the area.
“This success directly translates into critical local services,” said Hruska. “These dollars stay local and they help us with things like our disaster response and making sure people’s immediate basic needs are met.”
Hruska added the Red Cross is already planning for next year’s event. She said the Red Cross is grateful for the community’s support.
