Bloomington to conduct sewer repairs downtown

By WJBC Staff

BLOOMINGTON – The sewer main serving the area on Front Street from Madison Street to East Street is scheduled for work on Friday at 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The work will continue on Monday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monroe Street between Center Street and Main Street and on Market Street between Madison Street and Main. Overnight work will occur on Monday night from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Center from Jefferson Street to Mulberry Street. The work will conclude on Tuesday from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday on Front Street between Albert Street and Main.

The work involves installing a fabric liner into the existing sewer main. City officials say it is a safe way to rehab a sewer main at a fraction of the cost of total sewer replacement.

The project could lead to temporary loss of sewer service and the potential for odor to enter a building.

More information is available on the city’s website.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
