NORMAL – A youth from Normal is being charged as an adult with murder in connection with the fatal shootings in an E. College Ave. apartment on Wednesday night.

Christopher Harrison, 17, of the Normal address where the shootings occurred, faces six counts of first degree murder. Judge Pablo Eaves set bond for Harrison at $2.5 million.

Harrison is accused of shooting two Bloomington men, Joseph Gardner, 20, and Reginaldt Hart Jr., 19, in an apartment at Lancaster Heights multiple times execution-style.

McLean County State’s Attorney Jason Chambers told the judge Gardner was shot 13 times with nine of the shots in the back of the head and back, and Hart was shot eight times.

Chambers did not disclose a motive, but said Harrison led police to stolen weapons he had, including an AR-15 rifle. Chambers also said police found marijuana and a digital scale in Harrison’s bedroom.

Harrison will be housed in the McLean County Juvenile Detention Facility until he turns 18 on June 1.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
