NORMAL – Bloomington and Normal police departments are combating the issue of opioid abuse by giving residents an alternative for disposing expired prescriptions.

News partner WMBD reported residents can discard their old pills in bins placed outside of both stations.

Normal Officer Greg Leipold said this initiative comes in time for Take Back Day which is this Saturday.

“Part of the reason we’re doing this is obviously the opioid problems,” said Leipold. “We want the police departments to be the ones recycling those opioids. That wasn’t initially why it was developed, but now it’s the perfect reason to do what we’re doing.”

The DEA’s website has a list of all the locations participating in Take Back Day.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
