NORMAL – Heartland Council on Family Relations is asking men to walk a mile in women’s shoes to raise awareness for sexual assault and gender violence.
The student led club out of Heartland Community College is sponsoring the national Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event.
Heartland’s Christina Prestin-Latham said, a speaker from the Neville House will shed light on the reality of women living in negative situations.
“We’re trying to raise awareness within the community and the college about very serious events that a lot of people don’t feel comfortable talking about,” Prestin-Latham said. “We try to do them in ways that are friendly for all ages and bring a little bit of fun to families as well.”
The walk starts at 1pm, Saturday April 7, on the quad of Heartland Community College. In case of rain the walk will move to Heartland’s fitness center.
Men are encouraged to where high heels, but they are not required. Neither is registration.
