NORMAL – A woman from Normal has been ordered to perform community service for allowing her dog to die after being left outside in bitter cold for two days in January.

Susan Greene pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge in McLean County court.

Normal Police said a neighbor called them in early January after noticing the Pyrenees had been outside for long periods. Officers reported finding the dog barely moving under a tree with frozen ears and tail. The dog named Clara died the next day at a veterinary clinic.

Greene, 61, was placed on 18 months court supervision and ordered to perform 50 hours of community service. She must also pay a fine and fees totaling nearly $1,400.
