URBANA – The man accused of kidnapping and killing a Chinese scholar in Champaign will be heading to trial in April 2019.
The federal judge set the date after both the prosecution and defense asked for more time to prepare for the death penalty case. He also denied the motion to move the trial out of Urbana.
Brendt Christensen is accused of abducting and murdering Yingying Zhang last year and has been in jail since June. The judge expects the trial to last five weeks from jury selection to verdict.
