BLOOMINGTON – A Towanda pastor-turned-filmmaker is asking for your help in filling cast positions for his new movie.

Towanda native and Normal Community High alumnus Kevin Mounce is returning to central Illinois after living in Los Angeles since 2011. Now he is seeking out people who are interested in being cast as extras in his upcoming film, ” Christmas Crashers”. Speaking with WJBC’s Scott Laughlin, Mounce explains even if people don’t want to be in front of the camera, there are some behind-the-scenes aspects they can help with.

“It’s kind of geared toward the cast, like an open casting session, but for anybody that wants to get involved, like businesses interested in maybe offering up locations or maybe helping out with catering or props or anything like that,” said Mounce.

The informational meeting on what Mounce is expecting will be held this at 2:30 p.m. this Sunday at the Lafayette Club in Bloomington.

Mounce filmed his previous movie, “The Little Vagabond” using local locations such as Carl’s Ice Cream on College Ave, Six Strings bar, Fort Jesse Cafe, and his brother’s business, Mounce Automotive.

However, Mounce noted that filling cast positions was one of the most difficult aspects of making his first film.

“That was one of the most difficult tasks with the first one, was finding extras to come out and help,” Mounce explained. “So if anybody’s interested and wants to at least get in front of the camera, there’s some lines with a few of the roles. But for most of them if you can just not look directly into the camera.”

Mounce said he turned to filmmaking after he found a passion for the writing process while crafting his sermons. He explained once he saw the film “Good Will Hunting” and heard the story of how Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote the film, he decided to pursue filmmaking.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
