Elderly Clinton woman dies in house fire

CLINTON – A house fire in Clinton has killed an elderly woman.

DeWitt County Coroner Randy Rice said the fire started in the back of the house on Clinton’s west side at about 9:30 p.m.

Rice said in a news release the woman was pronounced dead just before 11 p.m. in the emergency room of John Warner Hospital and Health Services in Clinton.

Rice won’t release the woman’s name until her family is notified.

The coroner’s office and the State Fire Marshall are investigating.
