BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington teenager is headed to prison after pleading guilty to recklessly firing a gun, critically wounding a younger teen in the face.
Emerial Tutwiler, 18, was sentenced to two years in prison in a plea agreement in which he admitted to felony charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a gun without a firearm owners identification card.
Assistant McLean County State’s Attorney Brad Rigdon said in court on Thursday that Tutwiler was showing off the gun to a group of people in early October in the 1400 block of North Lee St.
According to Rigdon, Tutwiler was recklessly handling the gun, causing it to fire.
The victim, 14, was shot in the face, and was initially hospitalized in critical condition. Rigdon said the boy has since been released from the hospital, but he provided no other details about the boy.
