BLOOMINGTON – A local nonprofit organization is asking the public’s help in preparing a Christmas meal for people in need.

Home Sweet Home Ministries spokesperon Leslie Bunge says they will be accepting food donations such as turkey breast, vanilla, and butter to help make the meal a success.

“Ham, we’re going to have some mac and cheese, and sweet potatoes and dinner rolls, so it’s kind of another nice Christmas meal for everyone that we can get together, and share,” Bungee explained.

Bunge said they have around 180 volunteers helping out with Christmas meals this year. She explained donations can be made at anytime before the big day.

“Walk in to the front desk, say they have a donation and we can take care of it,” said Bunge. “If it’s a bigger donation, we might have you come around to the back side, ring a doorbell, and we’ll take care of you there.”

Donations can be dropped off at Home Sweet Home Ministries on 303 East Oakland Avenue in Bloomington. Home Sweet Home Ministries plans to provide around 550 meals, with a sit down meal planned for 12:30 p.m. on Christmas day.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
