SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Bruce Rauner led a solemn ceremony at the Elks Lodge at Lake Springfield to honor Pearl Harbor survivors and pay tribute to the more than 2,400 Americans who lost their lives in the Japanese attack 76 years ago.
“December 7, 1941 is indeed a day that has lived in infamy, will live infamy, and should live in infamy forever,” said Rauner.
Also speaking at the ceremony was Pastor John Temple. He is the nephew of Robert Monroe Temple, a U.S. Navy Seaman First Class who was killed in the Pearl Harbor attack.
The governor proclaimed Thursday as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in Illinois.
“We can never repay all those who faithfully and honorably served during the war, but we will always remember what they did and fought for,” the governor said.
