WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois is joining her female colleagues in calling for the resignation of Minnesota Senator Al Franken, who faces multiple sexual harassment allegations.
In a statement, Duckworth said she is deeply disappointed in her fellow Democrat’s behavior.
Duckworth said national leaders must hold themselves to a higher standard, and they must lead by example to ensure every person is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
Duckworth said it’s awe-inspiring how harassment victims have come forward and started a long-overdue national conversation.
“This isn’t about Democrats or Republicans, it’s about our society. It’s about who we are as a people and the kind of country we want our daughters—and our sons—to grow up in,” Duckworth said.
Franken is expected to make an announcement about his future on Thursday.
