BLOOMINGTON – Central Catholic High School is celebrating a national award.

Central Catholic High School is one of a few schools chosen in the area as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School. Being named a Blue Ribbon School is the highest award a school can receive from the United States government.

Freshman David Broadbear said the award highlights the positive environment Central Catholic has created.

“It means a lot to me,” Broadbear explained. “It really shows me that I’m going to be in good hands here at Central Catholic and that I’m going to be able to learn a lot.”

Broadbear also said there’s a few people to thank who made the award possible.

“Our faculty and staff, just such great teachers,” said Broadbear. “The principles and vice principals just helping to create the best environment for us.”

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
