BLOOMINGTON – There’s more than one thing that can go awry during All Hollow’s Eve, with spirits and goblins and ghouls all around; checking your coverage is logically sound.
Country Financial Representative Brad Wurth of Normal said there are plenty of things to look out for during Halloween, but the most important thing is knowing where your coverage ends.
“Well you wanna be familiar with your deductibles, especially if it’s something in your howeowners policies,” Wurth said. “So vandalism is something that can be a little more prevalent for the Halloween time and vandalism is covered in most homeowner policies as well.”
Wurth detailed several things that could happen during the night of tricks and treats, beyond just vandalism. Whether its fires caused by overturned jack-o-lanterns or just the occasional trip of a trick or treater, or even losing control of your car while avoiding halloween participants. One of the biggest insurance claim incidents are those involving dogs…
According to the Insurance Information Institute, dog bites and dog related injuries are considered to be one third of all homeowner insurance liability claims last year, amounting to more than $600 million.
But if you’re looking to change your plan, do it soon said Wurth who advised while people can implement changes on the day of Halloween, they may not be properly updated until a day or two afterward.
“We are kind of in the 11th hour here, Halloween’s quickly approaching, so anytime up until that point of claim is all fair game to get those coverages changed,” said Wurth.
