Bloomington-Normal unemployment remains lowest in state

SPRINGFIELD – Unemployment in September dropped throughout the entire state, with Bloomington-Normal reporting the lowest jobless rate among the state’s metropolitan areas.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security reports the Bloomington-Normal unemployment rate last month was 3.6 percent, down from 5 percent in September 2016.

The agency also reports the Twin Cities region gained about 1,400 jobs during the 12-month period for a total of 95,100 a jump of 1.5 percent.

The statewide jobless rate in September was 4.6 percent.
