Police: Driver clocked at 116 mph arrested in Bloomington after crash

BLOOMINGTON – Police said a man driving well over 100 miles per hour on Monday crashed his car while fleeing from police in Bloomington.

Police in LeRoy said they were notified of an erratic driver traveling at a high rate of speed on Interstate 74 westbound approaching LeRoy shortly before 3 p.m. Police clocked the black Lexus at 116 miles per hour.

The vehicle continued speeding toward Bloomington and LeRoy police alerted Bloomington and Illinois State Police. Police said the driver crashed his car at Morrissey Drive and Rhodes Lane into another vehicle. Both drivers were taken to the hospital for what police say were minor injuries.

LeRoy Police arrested the Lexus driver, Kharon Overton, 20, of Chicago on preliminary charges of speeding more than 40 miles per hour over the limit, felony fleeing and eluding police, drunk driving, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving and illegal consumption of alcohol.

Overton was taken to the McLean County Jail where he remains pending a bond hearing.
