Central Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis said he hates to see turnover so soon in the top job at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Health Secretary Tom Price, the man who led the Trump Administration’s efforts to try to repeal the Affordable Care Act, resigned friday because he used taxpayer money to pay for expense charter plane flights.
Davis expressed surprise when WJBC informed him of Price’s resignation. The two Republicans served together in Congress.
Davis hopes Price’s replacement has medical expertise. Price is a physician.
“As we move ahead and we talk about where we in congress have already invested billions more dollars in things like cancer research and we need to have a head of HHS whose going to make sure that those research dollars go to solve problems within pediatric cancer and cancer research that’s why that job is so important.”
Davis, speaking at his office in Normal, suggested the administration take some time choosing the next Health Secretary, similar to the process that led to the nomination of Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue to become the nation’s agriculture secretary.
