SPRINGFIELD – Unemployment across the state continued to drop during August with Bloomington-Normal again leading the state with the lowest jobless rate.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security reports the local unemployment rate for August was 4.2 percent. That equals Springfield for the lowest rate among the state’s metropolitan areas.
The agency reports the Bloomington-Normal area gained about 1,700 jobs over the past year for a total of 93,000 non-farm jobs.
The statewide unemployment rate for August was 5.2 percent.
