BLOOMINGTON – Since 1974, the Bloomington Farmers Market has been a social hub where people can meet and greet one another, as well as purchase fresh produce.
With local bands, families, friends, and pets abound in the market, it’s no surprise people go there to enjoy themselves. For Rocky Zeigler, the market is a family tradition, as he brought his two young granddaughters – who seemed to be delighted by the market’s atmosphere as much as Rocky.
“[My granddaughters] are here today, they’re with us for the weekend, so that’s the first thing we thought of this morning – let’s bring them to the farmers market,” Zeigler said. “They got face painting and cinnamon rolls and they’re happy. Life’s good today.”
Other than the food that’s sold, the market is never short of families and smiles. Gina O’Brien, who sat close to the museum with two of her new children, took a moment to relax and enjoy the day while her two other children played nearby.
“I think it’s something unique to have in town, it’s just neat to see everyone come out, come together,” O’Brien explained. “It’s perfect for kids to run around, it’s a perfect day, and it’s just a nice way to start the weekend.”
The market is open outside the McLean County Museum of History from 8:30 a.m. until noon every Saturday until October.
