NORMAL – Unit 5’s Board of Education got a preview of a new virtual classroom that has been installed in the two high schools, Normal Community and Normal West.
“Bringing the real world into the classroom, providing the opportunity to go around the world for the kids, without having to actually move, I think is just an incredible opportunity for them,” said Board President Jim Hayek.
The classroom uses several monitors, cameras, and microphones, allowing students and teachers to connect with people all over the world. An expert can call into the classroom and hold discussions with a class, or give them a tour around a facility they wouldn’t otherwise be able to see.
District leaders say it will open a new world of possibilities.
