BLOOMINGTON – With several areas throughout Texas flooded, major airports closed and major roads that are either flooded or otherwise impassible due to Hurricane Harvey, there’s a good chance it may take a little more cash to fill your gas tank.

“Gas prices are up in many places and motorists should be gearing up for more in the coming weeks, thanks to Hurricane Harvey inundating significant refineries along the Texas coastline, leading to closures and tilting the delicate balance of supply and demand,” said Patrick DeHaan, Senior Petroleum Analyst for GasBuddy.

Gas prices in the last five years have risen toward the end of August, with prices between 2012-2014 passing $3.50 per gallon. According to GasBuddy, the average prices in Illinois have risen nearly nine cents per gallon in the last week, with prices in McLean County holding currently at about $2.14 per gallon.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
