BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington is hoping to make a big splash in its city parks over the next couple of years, revamping its Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
On Tuesday, more than a dozen community members came out to voice their opinions on the popular O’Neil Park. Park goers say the pool, that is almost 50 years old, is one of the main attractions they would like to see upgraded.
“I don’t want to lose the pool, but I think a bigger kitty area, a bigger splash pool type of thing, a lazy river, would be ideal for me,” Bloomington resident Amy Richard said.
They also would like to see a walking trail, concession stands, and more opportunities for community events.
“This is an opportunity for us to take a moment and speak with the taxpayers, here with their vision is for the neighborhood, their vision for the park and pool, so we’re getting the best value for the taxpayers,” alderman Scott Black said.
The Parks and Recreation Department will host another meeting on Thursday, focused on the Master Plan as a whole. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at Miller Park Pavilion.
