PONTIAC – OSF St. James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center has marked 20 years as part of the OSF HealthCare Illinois Neurological Institute Stroke Network.

According to a press release, the network serves 20 hospitals and was created to allow rural facilities to provide the same urgent quality care by collaborating with a larger hospital.

Community Relations Coordinator Pam Meiner said the network has improved over the years.

“Every stroke is different, so quick and effective evaluation and then response to those diagnostic results is important,” Meiner said. “Twenty years of refining that response and working together and improving stroke care is a huge milestone, one that we were glad to celebrate,” Meiner said.

The hospital was honored with a celebration and a plaque on June 15.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
