BLOOMINGTON – A six-year-old Logan County girl struck by a sport utility vehicle Saturday in Bloomington has died.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said MacKenzy Brown of Lincoln was pronounced dead Monday morning at OSF St. Francis Medical Center Children’s Hospital.
The coroner and Bloomington police said the girl was hit in the 2400 block of Bunn Street shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday. Police say she was breathing but unconscious when first responders arrived.
Bloomington police said the father had parked on the east side of the street, and was in a business parking lot across the street when the sport utility vehicle struck the child as she attempted to cross the roadway to join him.
MacKenzy was taken to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal and later airlifted to Peoria.
Police said no charges will be filed against the driver.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with medical expenses, and the coroner said MacKenzy’s organs will be donated through The Gift of Hope.
The coroner said there won’t be an autopsy for the child.
