BLOOMINGTON – The U.S. Cellular sign at the Coliseum in Bloomington is coming down, but that doesn’t mean a new sponsor name is going up right away.
Coliseum manager Lynn Cannon of VenueWorks said the city is removing the signage at the mobile phone company’s request as its 10-year naming rights agreement expired in April 2016.
“We are status quo, our signage is coming down, due to the expiration of the contract with U.S. Cellular today,” Cannon said.
City Manager David Hales explained that U.S. Cellular has been lessening its presence in Bloomington-Normal and city leaders knew for some time that the naming rights would not be renewed after agreement’s expiration last year.
Hales said the Coliseum’s management company VenuWorks is pursuing a new naming rights sponsor and is confident one will be signed soon. For now, just call it the Coliseum.
