KENNEY – A Kenney man accused a shooting a dog in his home last week also faces a charge of unlawful possession of firearms.
DeWitt County State’s Attorney Dan Markwell said Dale Barnett, 56, is charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal for allegedly shooting and killing the dog last Friday.
Markwell says as a condition of bond for the cruelty charge, Barnett could not possess any weapons or ammunition, but deputies received a tip that led to a search warrant at his home on Tuesday. The University of Illinois bomb squad disposed of a suspected explosive device, which the prosecutor declined to identify.
Barnett was arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of weapons and remains in the DeWitt County Jail on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned today.
