Bloomington, Normal awarded grant for historic preservation program

BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington and Normal will share in a federal grant to enable the Twin Cities to host an historic preservation program.

CAMP, the Commission Assistance and Mentoring Program, consists of on eight workshops that will involve Legal Ethics, Preservation Planning, Identifying and Designating Historic Resources, Preservation Incentives and Benefits and Building Public Support.

“This is a great opportunity for our communities to learn from the experts in historic preservation,” explains Town of Normal Associate Planner Taylor Long. “We are excited to have been selected for this grant award and very happy to host C.A.M.P. in Bloomington-Normal” added Bloomington City Planner Katie Simpson.

The project cost for the Bloomington-Normal CAMP is anticipated to be approximately $10,000, of which $7,000 will be funded by federal grants. Bloomington and Normal will split local cash and in-kind contributions.

CAMP is expected to take place in early fall.
