Bloomington Police make arrest following Airport Road crash

BLOOMINGTON – Police have arrested a Washington man who allegedly caused the crash that closed the intersection of College Avenue and Airport Road in Bloomington for nearly an entire day.

Police said Joshua Brewster, 33, was driving an SUV on Airport Road on Monday afternoon. The vehicle hit a utility pole and pulled down a second pole and pulled down live wires over the street.

Off-duty Bloomington police officer Sara Mayer was driving nearby when the crash occurred.

“There was a blur and I heard a noise, and the poles were taken down,” Mayer told WJBC’s Susan Saunders. “There were actually live wires in the roadway. I turned around and told the person behind me. Unfortunately, numerous people kept driving over the live wires.”

Police say four people in the SUV were taken to the hospital for injuries that aren’t considered life threatening.

Police are seeing charges of reckless driving, endangering the life or health of a child, and driving under the influence of drugs against Brewster.

The crash caused about 2,700 Corn Belt Energy customers to lose power on Monday night. Police said Comcast service was also interrupted.

The road was reopened shortly before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
