NORMAL – Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal has become the third hospital in the United States to be named a Managing Infection Risk Center of Excellence, recognizing exceptional processes and approach to mitigating infection risk that exceeds current standards.
“This certification lets our community know we have the resources and commitment to provide the best possible care for managing infection risk,” said hospital president Colleen Kannaday.
MIR is a voluntary certification process based on 18 defined infection prevention standards. In November 2016, BroMenn Medical Center underwent a rigorous three-day evaluation by MIR surveyors from DNV GL Healthcare. .
“Achieving certification validates all the effort we have put into this program and to ensuring the health and safety of our patients,” said Pam Bierbaum, RN, an infection preventionist at BroMenn Medical Center.
The MIR program empowers all staff to make necessary changes through a comprehensive risk assessment framework that provides hospitals with tools, resources, and institutional support to address often-overlooked areas and implement best practices.
“MIR motivates entire hospital systems to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities, rework and redesign existing systems, more efficiently manage resources, and ensure smarter and safer health care.” said Patrick Horine, Chief Executive Officer of DNV GL Healthcare in the United States. “Achieving certification shows commitment to excellence, and it helps demonstrate to your community that you are performing at the highest level.”
