CHAMPAIGN – The University of Illinois president has proposed millions in financial aid geared toward keeping more Prairie State students within its borders.
U of I President Timothy Killeen announced his Invest in Illinois, or Triple-I, program today. He proposed a commitment of $170 million in each of the next five years for students from Illinois who attend the university. Killeen’s measure would amend a bill in Springfield that would provide predictable higher education funding in exchange for tangible results in the classroom.
Killeen told the U of I board of trustees today that most students say they choose an out-of-state college for financial reasons.
