SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is announcing the top 10 consumer complaints her office receives.
For the ninth year in a row, consumer debt and identity theft lead the list, and includes problems with debt collection, payday loans and ID fraud. Madigan says moving up this year are education-related complaints.
“Most of the complaints when we started receiving them and to this day regarding education really flow from two areas; one our predatory for-profit schools and the other one is students and former students who are contending with their student loan debt,” Madigan said.
The AG’s office received nearly 2,400 complaints. Other consumer issues on the list include phone and lottery scams, construction and remodeling projects and used car sales.
