BLOOMINGTON – The Chateau Hotel and Conference Center remained closed Thursday afternoon for having a non-operational fire alarm system, however the City of Bloomington says they’re moving towards a potential solution.
Community Development Director Tom Dabareiner explained the hotel is looking to update the fire alarm panel.
“If they move that direction, when they’re ready for inspection we will certainly go out and inspect and hopefully get them re-opened,” said Dabareiner. “That is a process that may take seven or 10 days.”
Evacuating the hotel took until about 11 p.m. on Wednesday. Dabareiner said the city has been able to confirm the fire alarm system was working back in November. He said the system failed sometime between then on Wednesday.
Dabareiner added closing a business is not something the city likes, or wants, to do.
“We work very hard to find, really, any other to keep all or a portion of the business open,” said Dabareiner. “In this particular case, balancing risks, it just did not seem like the right move. It seemed like the other move that we had was to close them.”
Tony Roma’s, the restaurant adjacent to the hotel, is being allowed to remain open for the time being.
