BLOOMINGTON – A gathering Wednesday night at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts titled Empowering Women, Empower Women helps mark International Women’s Day.
Organizer Alexis Wolstein said she along with several local groups wanted to give residents an opportunity to come together and celebrate the day in a politics free environment.
“The day without women strike and day without women shopping can be viewed as a political statement,” said Wolstein. “We wanted to make sure that there was a way for the community to come together as well.”
Wolstein said they’re also using the event as an opportunity to raise money for Neville House.
“Originally our proceeds were going to help cover the cost of the event as well, but because of our extremely generous sponsors we’ve been able to say that all of our donations that we receive tonight will be going in their entirety to support Neville House and Mid Central Community Action,” she said,
The event features several women speaking about women who have helped empower them in their lives.
