BLOOMINGTON – A local non-profit is seeking used book donations for its book sale in May.

Books To Benefit plans to donate proceeds to support STAR Adult Literacy and YouthBuild McLean County’s literacy programs. President Jackie Langhoff said the group accepts all kinds of books.

“We have a whole library set up when people come in for our books sale,” said Langhoff. “It’s categorized much like a Barnes & Noble, or any of those book stores, by genre, by author.”

Langhoff added their books range in price. Paperbacks are $.50 and hardbacks are $2.

“We also have a vintage selection and some premium books that are specially priced,” she said.

Books to Benefit accepts in person donations at 360 Wylie Dr. in Normal on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drop boxes are also located at Wesley United Methodist Church at 502 E. Front St. in Bloomington and Y.W.C.A. at 1201 N. Hershey in Bloomington.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
