NORMAL – Heartland Community College is in the process of preparing its budget for the next fiscal year, but the process is difficult as the school does not know what type of funding it will get from the state.
Heartland President Rob Widmer said the school is looking at a number of scenarios.
“I think it’s only prudent that we look at what are a variety of scenarios at different levels,” said Widmer. “One of those, potentially, is if there is no state funding coming our direction.”
Currently, Heartland gets just over 7 percent of its funding from the state. Board of Trustees Chair Gregg Chadwick said during this week’s board meeting they should consider a conversation about restructuring their budget to not anticipate any state funding.
The board also approved a nearly 3 percent tuition and fees increase this week, partially due to continued uncertainty when it comes to state funding.
