BLOOMINGTON – The United Way of McLean County has recognized organizations for their fundraising efforts during the annual campaign, but the group is not calling an end to fundraising.
Co-chair Mary Strack explained fundraising is way down this year. About $1.5 million has been raised. The group plans to continue raising money throughout the year.
“It’s the way that people are giving. It used to be in those four or five months you would say ‘I’m going to commit to $1,000 from my paycheck,’” said Strack. “People don’t do that anymore, so it’s made it very difficult.”
Last year’s campaign raised about $3.5 million.
“We’re going to come up with new ideas and work with additional people to get the word out that these 32 agencies need our help,” Strack said.
The United Way campaign traditionally ends in late winter.
