NORMAL – As a judge considers a motion by the state attorney general which would halt state worker’s pay, Gov. Bruce Rauner believed it’s clear those workers should get their paychecks during the budget impasse.
A previous injunction allows state employees to be paid during the impasse, but Attorney General Lisa Madigan has filed a motion to have the injunction removed.
“The General Assembly passed a law that legislators have to be paid no matter what, even without a budget. They get a continuing appropriation for legislators to get paid. They have not done that for state employees,” said Rauner. “This is wrong. This is not fair, it’s not appropriate.”
Rauner spoke at Heartland Community College this week, where he added he’s recommended Illinois Comptroller Susana Medoza fight to make sure state workers are paid. He said this was something former Comptroller Leslie Munger fought for.
