BLOOMINGTON – A possible court ruling this month that would halt state worker pay is creating a concerning situation, according to State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington).
“That would be a very dramatic situation that many of us have a lot of empathy for,” Brady said.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan has asked a court to dissolve a previous injunction which allows workers to be paid during the budget impasse. Brady said unfortunately ruling in favor of Madigan’s motion would probably not be wrong.
“Constitutionally speaking, I think it’s pretty clear. The court ruled in order to – Supreme Court – in order to spend money the legislature has to appropriate it,” he said.
Brady said the livelihood of state workers versus the budget impasse is a difficult position to be in.
