BLOOMINGTON – The local Salvation Army’s annual Make A Difference fundraising campaign brought in more than $529,000 this year, beating the $490,000 goal.
Captain Paul James said seeing the community help them surpass the goal by over $39,000 is humbling.
“The year before you just barely made your goal, and then you see other agencies that are struggling with not making their goal, and then you exceed your goal,” said James. “It’s humbling that people have chosen to give to the needs of the people that come through your doors.”
The campaign makes up one-third of the Salvation Army’s budget. It combines the efforts of the Red Kettle fundraiser and the mail in/online donation appeal.
Director of Development Angie Fulton said exceeding the goal is an exciting accomplishment.
“We were a little concerned with the Kettles. The weather wasn’t great in December,” said Fulton. “But McLean is so wonderful and stepped up.”
Fulton added the campaign brought in a little under $500,000 last year.
