BLOOMINGTON – The Miller Park Zoological Society is again selling reindeer droppings.
The droppings are sanitized, painted, and turned into gems the society sells to help raise funds for the Miller Park Zoo. Susie Ohley with the society says they began selling the gems in 2008.
“This is a labor of love. This is all done completely on volunteer time,” Ohley said.
Ohley told WJBC’s Susan Saunders each gem takes about 45 minutes to make.
“We’ve sold probably between $50-60,000 as a fundraiser for the Zoological Society,” said Ohley. “So all of that money has gone back to our fabulous 125-year-old Miller Park Zoo.”
Each gem is $9.50 plus shipping. Gems can be purchased online at www.mpzs.org.
