BLOOMINGTON – Last Tuesday, Donald Trump was elected to be the next President of the United States, but not everyone is happy.
Across the nation people have been vocalizing their anger and confusion at the outcome of the election, with many wondering what lies ahead for the country. To ensure that those voices are heard in a positive environment, Illinois Wesleyan University will be holding an event on Monday afternoon to allow students, faculty, and residents to come and say their piece. Illinois Wesleyan University Provost Jonathan Green explained that all are welcome to attend the event, which is meant for open and civil discussion.
“We’ll have a town hall meeting Monday afternoon with leaders from the faculty, staff, students and members of the community to have a chance to talk and think through the ways in which we can continue to be good citizen leaders in the context of the outcome of the election,” said Green.
Following the election results, campuses and cities around the nation began to protest the election of Donald Trump. Green further explained that the results of the election should be respected by American citizens.
“The Dean of Students and I sent a message out to the campus,” said Green. “How it’s important to recognize that the democratic process is, in part, accepting elections.”
The event is sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and it is scheduled to. begin at approximately four o’clock on Monday, and anyone who wishes to speak their mind will be able to do so in a constructive environment.
