NORMAL – Illinois State University President Larry Dietz sent an email to students, faculty and staff last night following some activities in response to the results of the presidential elections.
ISU police reported minor acts of vandalism and there were also rumors of racial slurs and criminal hate activity on social media. Chief of Staff Jay Groves said this election was one of the most contentious ever. That meant some strong emotions.
“What President Dietz wanted to do today was to urge students, faculty and staff to treat each other especially well during this very emotional time,” Groves said.
Groves said if anyone knows of an act of intolerance to report it to the Dean of Students Office. Acts of violence should be reported to ISU police.
“He (Dietz) wants to make sure people are being treated well,” Groves said.
In his letter, Dietz added “every member of our campus community deserves a safe and secure environment.”
