BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington has applied for a grant program through the Illinois Housing Development Authority which would help local low income families repair their homes.
Bloomington Community Development Grants Coordinator Jennifer Toney explained if the city is selected they will be able to provide grants to six families.
“With the grant we’re allow to provide up to $45,000 in assistance per household,” said Toney. “With that, our first priority is health and safety issues – so making sure that the homes are brought up to code.”
Toney said the city should find out if it’s been selected sometime in the first quarter of next year.
“The terms are zero percent interest and it’s a five year forgivable loan. Which means that as long as the homeowner stays in the home for five years after the work is completed then it basically becomes a grant at that point,” she said.
Bloomington is already accepting applications. The deadline to get on the waiting list is 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 9. To complete the pre-application paperwork, contact Jennifer Toney at 309-434-2342 or jtoney@cityblm.org.
