BLOOMINGTON – Winter weather is just around the corner and Ameren Director of Gas Supply Ken Dothage has some tips to keep your power bill from being a shocker.
“You’ve got vents in the rooms so you can shut those vents off if you’re not using the room and you can shut the doors as well,” said Doethidge.
Dothage says keeping your thermostat at 68 will keep your bill low and your home comfortable.
Other tips from Ameren include using a programmable thermostat to automatically adjust the temperature of your home according to your family’s schedule – lowering the temperature when you’re sleeping or away and raising the temperature only when needed.
Also you should make sure your home is adequately insulated, which can reduce your energy usage by up to 30 percent. In the Midwest, experts recommend having 9 to 15 inches of insulation in your attic.
