NORMAL – An Indianapolis man has been arrested in McLean County on weapons charges related to a gun shop theft in Springfield.
William McCoy, 22, was arrested after a McLean County sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop on Interstate 55 in Normal Wednesday night. McCoy was taken into custody after fleeing on foot near Raab Road. A passenger in the car got away but charges against that person are pending.
McCoy is accused of participating in a ring that stole weapons after smashing vehicles into gun shops. He was jailed in lieu of a bond of just over $30,000.
