SPRINGFIELD – U.S. trained Iraqi forces are moving closer and closer to ISIS positions in the Iraqi city of Mosul as they try to wipe out that branch of the terror network.
U.S. Sen.Dick Durbin is pleased with the progress but said wiping out ISIS offers no easy answers.
“It’s going to take a while to close down ISIS in Mosul, which is the second biggest city in Iraq,” Durbin said. “It’s going to be done with Iraqi forces. The franchise is moving though. The ISIS franchise is going to move into Syria and other places.”
Durbin said one of the more disturbing aspects of the battle for Mosul is the use of child soldiers by ISIS. Nearly 300 of them have been killed so far in the battle for Mosul.
