BLOOMINGTON – Downstate Illinois’ only natural birth center has recorded its first new arrival.
The Birth Center reports Danielle and Caleb Giles gave birth to a little girl named Arwen Marie. She arrived Wednesday afternoon via water birth at six pounds, nine ounces and 20 inches. The Birth Center is the second facility in the state licensed for births via certified nurse midwives in a personal, family-oriented setting. The facility received its license earlier this month.
The center’s Jessica Poppe explained mothers have the option of a water birth at their facility, which was the method of delivery for the center’s first baby.
“Water birth has shown to be a safe and effective option for women for comfort, but then also for labor process. Women love to labor in the tub. It helps with pain management. It helps with their labor to progress,” she said.
