NORMAL – The Normal Rotary Club has started its 2016-17 Coats for Kids drive to provide winter wear to students in Bloomington-Normal.
During the 2015-2016 winter season, the Coats for Kids program provided 573 new coats, 744 pairs of mittens and gloves and 480 hats to local children in need. The program, in existence over nine years, has worked with Bloomington-Normal retailers to buy coats, mittens and hats for area students.
To get the most from each dollar, Rotarian Connie Gentry and her committee purchase as much winter wear as possible during clearance sales and special sale days like Black Friday. They also purchase many items at the end of winter when merchants are transitioning to spring apparel.
Cash donations can be sent to the Normal Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 333, Normal, IL 61761.
