BLOOMINGTON – A 60 year old woman will spend the next four years in prison for neglecting an elderly person in her care.
The elderly man gave Doreen Rodgers, who was a family member, free room and board in exchange for the care.
Bloomington police were alerted to the situation after the elderly man was left lying on the floor for seven days in the same position. He was found with severe injuries and insects were crawling on his body.
Rodgers was arrested after a thorough investigation. She was eligible for probation, but the judge decided on a tougher sentence.
The Assistant State’s Attorney says the sentence sends a strong message that neglect of our senior citizens will not be tolerated.
